A few songs into their set the previous week, Lynagh put out the message they were taking requests. I walked up and said, “I want you to play something you like singing and enjoy performing”. The next set of events that happened just blew me away. First, she got this huge smile on her face, looked at me and said “thank you”. I thought that was nice and walked back over to where I was standing on the opposite wall from where these clips were filmed because it was standing room only and didn’t think anything else about it. She walked to the microphone, looked and pointed at me and said, “This is Phillip, he has come to my past couple of shows, and, requested I play a song I like to perform”. I was completely astounded. I could not believe that she thought enough of that request to go to that level. She then went into the song. I remember music and I remember her singing but past that it was just such a sensory overload I couldn’t believe it. After the song I had to leave the stage area because I could not believe what just happened. I know I missed the next song and probably the one after that. Finally got enough composure to go back to the stage area. The set finished and she was nice enough to talk to me for a little bit and what I was doing with Locals, even showed her the article I wrote about my former classmate Wayne Mills who was also an independent singer/songwriter in Nashville years ago who tragically passed away and one of the reasons why I started doing this as a way for these artists voices to be shared with a wider audience and she was so appreciative of what I am trying to do which set the stage for everything this past weekend. Since I had no idea what she sang I asked her this week to play it again and after going through her list she remembered. I didn’t record the intro because I didn’t know when she would perform it, but, she used the same basic intro except used the words “My friend”. It is another heartbreak song which if you listen to her original material seems to be a lot of what she has released so far, but because of those moments when she made “some guy who posts random things in a small corner of the internet” feel so important this is one of those songs that will always have a special place in my heart. This is Lynagh performing Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved”.
