By this time I am used to the commentary these artists will use before they go into a particular song, and, I don’t think about and I try not to interject myself into the set so I might say something to myself assuming no one will hear it. Bring that up because this past Sunday since I wasn’t filming anything I was at the far left of the stage but fairly close to it. Before Lynagh goes into “Goodbye Earl” she usually starts with “Who wants to hear a song about murder?”. Not thinking about I said, Oh, I haven’t heard that in a while” assuming no one heard me. Imagine my surprise when from the stage she says, “No, not that one”. It was a different song I have heard before but I can’t recall the title. Because I was just using my usual speaking voice and was so surprised she could even hear me I said, “Oh, okay. I will just sit over here and shut the hell up then”. She said, “That’s okay”. Had messaged her earlier that day because with all the chaos that was going on the 18th after everything started to calm down because I was still trying to make sense of it all, her original song “Off The Rails” just popped into my head and one of the lines in the song stuck with me. The message to her Sunday included a request if she was okay with performing it because I had never heard it live. Assumed it was a personal issue but she replied it was because of the tuning for that particular song. She actually finished writing another song instead she performed for me. Didn’t really fit with what I was needing because I didn’t explain the details until after the set, and, had another situation where people at the bar (one guy in particular) wouldn’t shut up so I could hear it properly. Bring all that up because before I started recording this song she commented, “This is something you won’t hear anywhere else”. That obviously piqued my interest so figured I needed the camera out for this. She was right because I haven’t heard this one, especially from a female artist. Don’t know why these people keep “having fun” with his material but this is Lynagh performing Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue”.
