Mentioned in my last post about sending The Sinatra opening to Dustin Kines this past Wednesday and him responding with a “Hell Yeah”. Been trying to film new clips of him for months. Always been a scheduling issue, or when we were at the same place at the same time, situation wasn’t right. He is performing at a writers round at a venue tonight but it is about 50 miles one way from my apartment. Tomorrow, Dakota Danielle and he are performing as part of a multi-artist event at a venue close to Music Row, but, it is strictly 90’s Country. Both prevent me attempting to record any jazz standard material.
Asked him if he was playing anyplace else sooner. Replied he was playing that night at Mellow Mushroom (a pizza chain that specializes in promoting a “laid back/hippie” type vibe if you have never heard of them). Since I had to pass downtown from Sunny’s after Bella Dorian’s set figured that would be perfect. Once I got there I again had a situation where I became part of the show without trying to become part of the show.
Last time I saw him as I was leaving Taco Bell Cantina, he says from the stage, “Everyone say bye to Phil”. Bring that up because after I walked in while the band was performing, waved at him and he nodded his head. Took my seat and figured I would just watch the show. After that song was over, he announces, “Everyone say hi to Phil”. Mind you the other three performers on stage I had never seen before and when he didn’t hear anything he followed up with, “You didn’t say hi.”, basically to push the issue that the show wouldn’t continue until they did.
Once they did things continued on until they got to Martina McBride’s “Independence Day”. Conversation started between the vocalist and Dustin as to the year it was released. I didn’t know either so out of curiosity I get out my phone to look it up. As I was doing that he popped up with, “Phil’s going to look it up for us”. As they performed I did, so after the song was over he asked and I told him it was 1994. Because the other artists I didn’t know and he was recruited at the last minute to play bass which he said after the set he hadn’t done in about six years, no footage other than this picture. Just figured you would like reading about another one of these crazy things I keep falling into.

“Animals” Behind the scenes video

Sunshine posted a “Behind the scenes” video of Lyssa Coulter and him recording “Animals”. Figured I would go ahead and share it because you couldn’t hear any of his vocals with the footage Lyssa posted previously.

Point/Counterpoint “Animals” Pre-Save Video

Since he is involved with two songs coming out the 29th, Sunshine created a hilarious “counterpoint” to Lyssa’s IG story trying to get people to pre-save their cover of Nickelback’s “Animals”.
